Bryan Reynolds got the Pirates on the board early by hitting a home run in the first inning. Pittsburgh later tacked on two in the fourth. The Pirates had a 3-0 lead for much of the game until Luke Voit hit a three-run homer in the sixth to tie the game. That score held into the eighth inning until Wil Myers came to the plate. With runners at the corners, Myers hit a broken-bat single up the middle to drive home Manny Machado. Taylor Rogers had a clean 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save.
The Padres will have a very good shot at winning this series tonight starting their phenomenal ace Joe Musgrove. The righty is undefeated this season with a 5-0 record. He has an outstanding 1.90 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP. Even in a rotation with Yu Darvish and Blake Snell, right now it would still be a no-brainer to start Musgrove in a deciding game. The Pirates will counter with JT Brubaker who is looking for his first win on the season with an 0-4 record and a 4.64 ERA.
