Miami was about our best hope to derail Clemson of their national title path and mix up the championship game that has included the Tigers in four of the six College Football Playoff National Championships. In 2020, it's looking like that's going to be five of the seven. Miami was in no way competitive with Clemson last week getting blown out 42-17. For as bad as Miami's defense looked, it actually scored one of those two touchdowns for the Hurricanes. Guess we're going to have to wait and see if Notre Dame can compete with Clemson in the ACC.

This doesn't mean that Miami is bad in any way. It just may take a little while longer for them to get back to their former glory. They are making marked improvements under second-year head coach Manny Diaz after they went 6-7 in 2019. They are already at half their wins this year with a 3-1 record. Their most impressive win was against their biggest rival Florida State in which they won 52-10. A close second best though was their convincing 47-34 win over a ranked Louisville team in Kentucky.

Before they hit the Clemson buzz saw, the Hurricanes offense was running through their ground game led by Cam'Ron Harris. He looked destined for a breakout year for the 'Canes rushing for 268 yards alone in his first two games with three touchdowns. Against FSU he only rushed for 43 yards but more than made up for it in the endzone, scoring twice. Maybe the stat that summed up the entire game for the Miami offense against Clemson was Harris' three yards rushing.

Another reason this Hurricanes offense has been so productive is on the legs of QB D'Eriq King. The transfer from Houston, has a pair of touchdowns and 241 rushing yards of his own. King has a fascinating and heartbreaking story before he got to Miami. At Houston, he ended up redshirting after a disappointing start to the 2019 season after he was responsible for 50 touchdowns in 2018 for the Cougars. His mother was diagnosed with cancer and his father passed all before he came to Miami. But he has largely led a redemptive comeback so far to start the season and really can take this Hurricanes team to the upper echelon of the ACC.

Like Harris though, he was mostly shut down against Clemson. It's not like either of them had much of shot all night. The offensive line was just torn to pieces. That unit will have to improve the most if they are to beat a good Pittsburgh team. The Panthers have lost heartbreaks in the last two games, both by a point. Last week against Boston College, they lost because of a missed extra point that didn't send it into a second overtime. They beat a ranked Louisville team, same as Miami did and were 3-0 to start the season. They're going to have to have a short memory if they are going to hang with this Miami offense.
