The Saints have long since had their demotion back to the Championship confirmed and are now fighting for little other than pride, which could end up working in their favor against the might of the Citizens. Pep Guardiola’s men, meanwhile, have won five games on the bounce and are looking to at least temporarily move level on points with second-place Arsenal after rediscovering some of their finest form too late.

City has endured an uncharacteristically poor campaign and is pinning all its trophy hopes on the upcoming FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

As such, there’s a chance Guardiola will rest certain stars for the visit to St. Mary’s Stadium, where City has won 4-1 in each of its last two Premier League trips.

De Bruyne may be one of those retained for the visit south as he embarks upon his farewell tour in City colors, though Guardiola could deem him too important to risk ahead of Wembley.

Southampton did manage a home win over the Citizens as recently as January 2023, though that 2-0 triumph came in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
