The two last place teams in the PWHL will go head-to-head on Saturday as the Sirens host the Charge in women’s hockey action.

The regular season is beginning to wind down in the Professional Women’s Hockey League and on Saturday afternoon, the New York Sirens will host the Ottawa Charge at the Prudential Center. The Sirens are currently at the bottom of the PWHL standings with a record of 5-4-4-11 for a total of 27 points. The team only trails the fifth place Charge by three points so a regulation win would move it up in the standings. New York will look to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to the Toronto Sceptres on Wednesday. Toronto scored two goals, on in the first and one in the second, to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Alex Carpenter cut that lead in half halfway through the second period, but that was the only goal scored for New York, resulting in the team’s 11th loss of the season.

The Charge will also look to bounce back from a loss after falling to the second place Boston Fleet last weekend in a 5-2 defeat at home. Boston opened the scoring in the second, but Tereza Vanišová netted her 10th goal of the season with assists from Ronja Savolainen and Shiann Darkangelo to tie the game up. The Fleet countered again in the third with four goals before Natalie Snodgrass scored with just 30 seconds remaining. At that point in the game, there wasn’t enough time to close the now three-goal gap Boston had created and the team suffered another loss to move to 8-1-4-10 on the season.

Ottawa and New York last met at the end of February and the Charge earned a 5-4 overtime victory in front of a home crowd.
