Kendall Coyne Schofield will look to lead the Minnesota Frost in a last ditch effort to secure a playoff position with a win over the Boston Fleet.

The final game of the regular season has arrived and there are still playoff positions available in the Professional Women’s Hockey League. The Frost is currently in fifth place in the standings with a record of 9-5-4-11 for a total of 41 points. In order to make it into one of the four coveted spots, the team would need to beat the third place Fleet and the fourth place Ottawa Charge would need to lose or draw in their final game of the season. Minnesota’s most recent game was played against Ottawa and resulted in a big 3-0 victory. Kendall Coyne Schofield opened the scoring for the Frost, scoring her 11th goal of the season in the second period. Lee Stecklein came alive in the third, netting her first and second goals of the season to add some insurance and help the team add another three points to its tally.

The Fleet has been near the top of the PWHL standings for the majority of the season and seems to be shoe in as one of the final two teams to secure a spot in the post season. The team is currently 9-6-5-9 for a total of 44 points. The last several games have been a bit up-and-down for Boston, however, as the team has only won one of its last five games. Most recently, the Fleet played to 3-2 overtime loss against the league-leading Montreal Victoire. Montreal took a 2-0 lead before Boston was able to get on the board with a goal from Hannah Brandt. Hannah Bilka scored the equalizer with a little over two minutes remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. With only 43 seconds remaining in the overtime period, Montreal struck again to hand Boston another loss.

The last time Boston and Minnesota met dates back to mid-February and the Fleet picked up a 4-2 victory. Six different players scored in the game further proving how much depth both of these teams have offensively.
