The defending Walter Cup champion Minnesota Frost look to avenge a blowout loss on Wednesday when they face the New York Sirens.
The Minnesota Frost (7-2-1, 19 points) have moved to the top of the Professional Women’s Hockey League standings a third of the way through the league’s second season. On Wednesday night they get a chance to avenge a 5-0 blasting at home 10 days ago at the hands of the New York Sirens (5-3-1, 14 points), which is the last time the teams met. Minnesota is the defending Walter Cup champions, while the Sirens missed the playoffs with the PWHL’s worst record last season.

The Frost picked up their second straight win on Sunday, beating the Montreal Victoire 4-2 at Ball Arena in Denver in front of a U.S. women’s hockey record crowd of 14,108. Maggie Flaherty broke a 2-2 tie with a goal 7:27 into the third period. Defender Clair Thompson shares the PWHL lead with 10 points, with Britta Curl-Salemme tied for the league lead with five goals. Maddie Rooney is 5-1-0 with a 1.98 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.
Jessie Eldridge got the game’s only goal 3:37 into overtime to lift New York past the visiting Toronto Sceptres on Sunday. Corinne Schroeder stopped 28 shots to get her second shutout of the season and leads the league with a 1.86 GAA and .935 save percentage. Alex Carpenter has a share of the PWHL lead with five goals and 10 points, while No. 1 overall pick Sarah Fillier also has recorded 10 points.
The teams have played three times so far, with the road team winning each. The Sirens got a 4-3 overtime win in St. Paul, Minnesota in the PWHL opener on Dec. 1 before Minnesota came back for a 4-3 shootout win at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Dec. 22. But on Jan. 4, New York blasted the Frost 5-0 at Xcel Energy Center.
