The Minnesota Frost can leap to 2nd place in the PWHL while the Toronto Sceptres try to hold that spot on Sunday

The fourth-place Minnesota Frost (11-7-4, 33 points) and second-place Toronto Sceptres (11-7-4, 35 points) are separated by just two points in the Professional Women’s Hockey League standings as the season enters its homestretch. In between them are the Boston Fleet with 34 points, with all three clubs chasing the first-place Montreal Victoire. The Frost visit Toronto’s Coca-Cola Coliseum on Sunday afternoon coming off a victory while the Sceptres have won seven of their last eight games after pummeling the Victoire on Thursday.

Minnesota, the defending Walter Cup champions, avenged a record-setting loss to the Ottawa Charge on Feb. 13 with a 5-0 shutout at home on Friday night. Maddie Rooney needed only 19 saves to record the goose egg while Sophie Jaques, Denisa Křížová and Kendall Coyne Schofield each recorded a goal and an assist while Dominique Petrie had two helpers.

Natalie Spooner scored her first two goals of the season as she rounds into form after missing the first half of the season recovering from knee surgery and Kristen Campbell stopped 25 shots in Toronto’s 4-1 victory on Thursday night. Renata Fast and Daryl Watts had two assists apiece, with both of Spooner’s tallies coming on the power play.

Hannah Miller of the Sceptres leads the PWHL in scoring with 23 points, ranking third with 10 goals while Coyne Schofield is tied for fourth with nine goals and 20 points. Frost forward Michela Cava also has nine markers. In net, Minnesota’s Maddie Rooney is 8-4-3 with the second-best goals-against average in the league at 1.96 to go with a .914 save percentage. Kristen Campbell is 6-6-2 between the pipes with a 2.26 GAA and .908 save percentage.
