The defending Walter Cup champion Minnesota Frost hold 1st place in the PWHL as they host the New York Sirens.

An overtime win on Thursday lifted the defending Walter Cup champion Minnesota Frost (5-1-1, 14 points) into first place in the Professional Women’s Hockey League Standings and they return to the ice on Saturday afternoon when they host the New York Sirens (3-2-1, 9 points at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Minnesota came from the fourth seed last spring to win the championship while the Sirens finished with the worst record in the league. Frost defender Claire Thompson leads the PWHL in scoring with 10 points.

Britta Curl-Salemme scored with 13 seconds left in overtime as Minnesota beat the Boston Fleet 4-3 in a Walter Cup Final rematch on Thursday. Boston came back from a 3-1 deficit in the final 10:25 to force overtime. Curl-Salemme leads the team and shares the league lead with four goals while in net, Maddie Rooney has a 2.25 goals-against average and .903 save percentage in four games.

New York fell into a 3-0 hole and never recovered on Sunday, dropping a 3-1 decision to the visiting Ottawa Charge. Rookie Sarah Fillier got the lone goal for the Sirens 23 seconds into the third period. Alex Carpenter also has a share of the PWHL lead with four goals and shares the team scoring lead with Fillier, each with eight points. Corinne Schroder has played in five games with a 2.63 GAA and .910 save percentage.

This is the third meeting of the season between the teams, with each scoring extra-time victories in the other club’s rink. New York got a 4-3 overtime win in St. Paul in the season opener on Dec. 1 while the Frost picked up a 4-3 shootout victory on Dec. 22.
