The Toronto Sceptres need just a regulation tie against the reeling Minnesota Frost to clinch their 2nd straight postseason berth

The Toronto Sceptres (14-7-5, 45 points) can lock up their second consecutive Professional Women’s Hockey League playoff berth on Sunday when they visit the defending champion Minnesota Frost (12-10-4, 35 points) at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. It is the final game for both teams before the international break for the IIHF Women’s World Championship in Czechia that begins on April 9. Toronto has won three straight games since an overtime loss to the Frost on March 9 while Minnesota has lost three in a row since that game. The Sceptres clinch a playoff spot with a regulation tie on Sunday.

Toronto stormed back with four third-period goals on Wednesday to sink the Boston Fleet 4-2 in Boston. Daryl Watts had the first and last goals in that flurry while Hayley Scamurra’s first goal of the season put the Sceptres up for good at the 5:41 mark of the third. Kristen Campbell made 28 saves in the victory.

The Frost dropped a 4-1 decision at home on Wednesday to the Montreal Victoire, who became the first team to clinch a postseason berth. Kelly Pannek had Minnesota’s lone goal at 4:09 of the second period. With the Ottawa Charge’s win over Boston at St. Louis on Saturday, the Frost have fallen to fifth place in the PWHL standings, one point back of Ottawa.

Watts is third in the PWHL with 25 points and shares the team lead of 10 goals with Hannah Miller. Campbell is 9-6-3 with a 2.08 goals-against average and .919 save percentage. Kendall Coyne Schofield leads Minnesota with 10 goals and 21 points while Michela Cava has nine markers. Maddie Rooney comes in with an 8-6-3 record, 2.13 GAA and .905 save percentage.
