The Red Sox improved to just 9-16 against the AL East with a 4-0 victory over the Rays on July 4 at Fenway Park. Trevor Story homered in the fourth inning to give Boston an early lead, and then the Red Sox added two more runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.
After Austin Davis went two scoreless innings, Red Sox reliever Kutter Crawford went five and one-third scoreless innings, eventually giving way to John Schreiber to complete the shutout with a save.
Boston looks to put even more distance between themselves and the Rays in the AL Wild Card race in Tuesday night’s game at Fenway Park.
