The Spartans’ postseason berth marks a historic moment for the program, as it is only the second time in school history that both the men’s basketball and football teams have advanced to postseason play in the same academic year. The first occurrence was in 2023. San José State finished the regular season with 15 wins and it’s the most wins (45) over three years since the team won 46 games from 1985-88 while a member of the Big West Conference.

The winner will advance to the second round game and play the winner of San Francisco vs. Utah Valley. 

The Ramblers are fresh off an Atlantic 10 semifinal appearance. Loyola won it’s first ever A-10 tournament game over Saint Louis in the quarterfinal, 72-64. Des Watson led Loyola with a career-high 25 points in the historic win.

This marks the second consecutive NIT appearance for the Ramblers and seventh overall as a program. Loyola has made six postseason appearances with head coach Drew Valentine on staff, three with him at the helm. The Ramblers reached the NCAA Tournament in his first year as head coach.
