Sunday’s matchup will be the first time Colombia and Japan’s women’s teams have faced off, with the former hoping to put an end to a six-match winless run that dats back to last year’s Olympic Games.

Colombia was roundly praised for reaching its maiden Women’s World Cup in 2023, which marked the nation’s true arrival at the elite level in women’s soccer.

Nils Nielsen’s side have sealed back-to-back 4-0 wins in each of their two outings since then, beating South Korea in an October friendly before battering Australia in its curtain-raiser on Thursday.
