The United States Olympic team is set to meet the Japanese Olympic team on Tuesday night as the teams look to tune up before the Paris Olympics later this year. The match will be played at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. Players in the Olympics must be under the age of 23, with the 18-player rosters allowed to have three players over that age. These teams are a chance to showcase the future of soccer around the world.

The United States U-23 men’s national team last played on March 25, drawing France 2-2 in a friendly with Griffin Yow and Cade Cowell scoring goals. The team heads back to the Olympics this year for the first time since 2008, when it failed to advance past the group stage.
Japan has played a number of games this year due to the AFC U-23 Asian Cup being held in April and early May, with the team defeating Uzbekistan 1-0 in the final to win that competition. Fuki Yamada scored the winning goal in the 90th minute. Japan finished in fourth place in the 2020 Olympics. That was the second time in three tries that the team finished in fourth place.
