Reigning Canadian Premier League champion Cavalry FC hosts Pacific FC on Saturday. Watch the game live and for free on Fubo.

Canadian Premier League titleholder Cavalry FC got off to a rocky start in its defense of the crown but is suddenly seeking a third straight win when it welcomes Pacific FC to ATCO Field on Saturday. Tommy Wheeldon Jr’s men are still chasing a first home win of the campaign, however, after slipping up against league leader Atletico Ottawa and sixth-place Vancouver FC in April. It’s been almost three years since Pacific FC last scored a win over Cavalry, and James Merriman’s men haven’t enjoyed recent trips to Calgary after failing to score in six consecutive visits to ATCO Field.

Pacific fell behind at home to York United in its last outing but managed to turn the deficit around and snag a second win of the season in front of a baying Starlight Stadium.

And it’s little wonder when Emanuel Montejano scored a 92nd-minute decider in the most obscure circumstances, seeing his point-blank header saved just one second before poking home:

The Pumas UNAM academy graduate only signed a one-year deal with Pacific FC in March but could already be emerging as something of a starlet for his new club.

He’d be happy to mimic the trajectory of Cavalry frontman Tobias Warschewski, who signed for the club on similar terms around 12 months prior, initially on a one-year contract.

The former Edmonton forward ended up laying his hands on the Golden Boot award as he helped power Cavalry to the crown, and he’s picked up where he left off this term with five goals in eight games.

No Cavalry player has scored more than the German so far this term, though Somalian Ali Musse is encroaching after netting three in his last three games.
