Off a fifth-place finish and a first-round exit a year ago, Pacific FC hopes to return to its 2021 Canadian Premier League Championship form as it kicks off the new campaign at home welcoming Valour FC into Starlight Stadium where The Tridents have dominated the Winnipeg side collecting points in 11 of the last 12 home matches in this series. Pacific featured one of the largest roster turnovers in the CPL during the offseason bringing back defender Kadin Chung and forward Marco Bustos who helped the Vancouver side to the title in 2021 while Valour, who narrowly missed out on a postseason appearance last year, has added depth as it looks to make the playoffs for the first time.

Last season, Pacific FC ranked last in the CPL in scoring collecting just 27 goals in 28 league matches making the return of Marco Bustos so vitally important after he scored 14 goals for the Tridents between 2020 and 2022. The 28-year-old Winnipeg native played for his hometown team in 2019 scoring seven goals before joining Pacific in 2020 scoring a goal in his team debut en route to being the CPL’s all-time leading goal scorer thru 2021 and is still third in league history in assists.

Valour struggled away from home last season collecting just 11 points in 14 away fixtures due in part to its defensive struggles that conceded a league-leading 26 goals on the road.

Pacific has dominated the all-time series leading Valour 16-4-3 but the Winnipeg side has won each of the last two meetings outscoring Pacific 4-0 including a 3-0 win at Starlight Stadium last July.
