Valour FC is desperately seeking out its first win of the Canadian Premier League campaign on Friday when it hosts York United, the only other team in the division currently within its reach. Phillip dos Santos’ men have racked up a singular point from their five outings so far this term and could draw level on points with seventh-place York, whom they still boast one game in hand over. Young manager Mauro Eustáquio has shown some promise in his first senior coaching position as York boss, with only top-of-the-league Atletico Ottawa scoring more goals than his side up to this point of the season.

Valour suffered its heaviest defeat of the season thus far away to league leader Atletico Ottawa last time out, where rising star Samuel Salter contributed no fewer than four of those:

The Quebec native is already halfway to matching his best-ever goal tally for a CPL season after just seven appearances this term, not to mention already amassing the same total he amassed over the entirety of 2024.

To put those figures into context, Salter scored as many goals in a single game as Valour has this entire campaign to date, with Dos Santos’ side stuck to the base of the standings for the time being.

York is only slightly better off after beating Vancouver away on the opening weekend of the season, though that remains the team’s sole road victory of the campaign to date.

And Valour will be desperate to keep it that way as it looks to bring an end to its win drought and, depending on the scale of any result, potentially move off the bottom of the table.
