Vancouver FC is still searching for a first home win of the 2025 Canadian Premier League campaign as it prepares to host an Atletico Ottawa side that has first place in its sights. Diego Mejia’s side recently saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end as they dropped to second in the standings, but victory in Langley would be enough to at least temporarily take the team back to top spot. Vancouver, meanwhile, has won just once so far this term but could make a move into the play-off places with a maiden win at Willoughby Community Park this season.

No team in the CPL has scored fewer goals than Vancouver’s paltry tally of just six finishes in seven games so far this season, with only last-place Valour matching that total.

It also doesn’t bode well for Friday’s host that it has managed to score just once in its last four meetings with Atletico, and even that finish came in a 4-1 home defeat when the teams last clashed in April.

Needless to say Afshin Ghotbi’s men will be desperate to rewrite the script compared to that last encounter, with form picking up somewhat after at least getting a first win of the season on the board.

Vancouver slipped to a first away defeat of the 2025 season last time out after Julian Altobelli’s strike gave York United all three points in Ontario:

An untimely defeat to current leader HFX Wanderers brought about a change in the pecking order for Atletico last weekend, in what could be a critical result come the end of the campaign.

And the Ottawans have now failed to win their last two road fixtures in a string of four back-to-back away games, having drawn 2-2 in their trip to Forge FC prior to that.
