The January transfer window offers Premier League clubs an opportunity strengthen ahead of the second half of the season.

Speculation is already swirling over potential transfers. Here are five big money moves that could happen in the Premier League next month.

Matheus Cunha

Wolves are fighting relegation, but they would be in a much worse position were it not for Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian forward has registered nine goals and three assists in the Premier League this season and is reportedly attracting interest from other clubs in the division.

Arsenal have been linked with Cunha and it’s easy to see how the centre forward would fit into Mikel Arteta’s system with his all-round game. Chelsea and Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors of the 25-year-old who could make an impact higher up the table.

Alexander Isak

After a sluggish start to the season, Alexander Isak has rediscovered his scoring touch, netting six times in his last four league games. However, Newcastle United are struggling to manoeuvre within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and could subsequently be tempted to sell Isak for the right price.

Arsenal were strongly linked with the Swedish striker last summer. There’s no doubt Isak would strengthen the Gunners’ forward line and give them the natural centre forward they currently lack. However, Newcastle would surely demand a fee of over £100m for their prize asset and that could price any potential suitors out of the market in January.

Joao Pedro

Liverpool are currently sitting four points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but that doesn’t mean they won’t take the opportunity to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window. Indeed, Joao Pedro has been linked with a mid-season switch to Anfield with the Brazilian currently shining for Brighton.

Pedro has four goals and three assists to his name this season with the 23-year-old’s versatility surely one of the things attracting Liverpool to him. He is capable of playing as a centre forward, but also as something of a number 10 in behind the striker. Pedro can even drift out wide and drop into midfield. Arne Slot would get a lot out of him.

Marcus Rashford

There is no bigger transfer saga in English soccer right now than the one concerning Marcus Rashford’s future. The 27-year-old has been left out of the Manchester United squad by new manager Ruben Amorim in recent matches and has stated his ambition to take on a “new challenge,” fuelling speculation that he could leave Old Trafford in January.

Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with Rashford in the past. Arsenal have similarly been mentioned as potential suitors for the England international, although it’s unclear whether United would be prepared to sell to a Premier League rival. Most recently, a transfer to Saudi Arabia has been mooted. Rashford’s future is very much up in the air.

Martin Zubimendi

Liverpool wanted Martin Zubimendi in the summer transfer window only for the Spanish international to stay at Real Sociedad. Now, Manchester City are being linked with a move for Zubimendi such is their desperate need for a new number six with Rodri expected to miss the rest of the season through injury.

Zubimendi would certainly give City another useful option in the centre of the pitch, but might choose to wait until the end of the season to make a decision on his future with Pep Guardiola’s team currently in freefall. Liverpool could also return for their previous top target next summer with Real Madrid also reportedly interested.
