Former River Plate striker Salomón Rondón scored a hat-trick at Hidalgo Stadium, adding on to goals from Nelson Deossa Suárez, Oussama Idrissi and Alán Bautista.

Meanwhile, Herediano took on Robinhood from Suriname in the round of 16. The Costa Rican club won the first leg 2-0 at Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium on March 5 thanks to goals from Getsel Ramón Montes Escobar and Adrián Garza del Toro.

The two clubs then met in the second leg at Flora Stadium on March 13, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Garza del Toro scored Herediano’s lone goal, which secured the Costa Rican side its spot in the quarerfinals.
