La Liga leader Barcelona can at least temporarily move three points clear at the top of the table with a win away to Las Palmas on Saturday as the jostle for control of Spain’s top flight continues. Just when it seemed the Catalan kings were allowing their grip on La Liga to loosen, a sudden dip in results from rival Real Madrid has given Hansi Flick & Co a route back into major contention. Las Palmas, on the other hand, is without a win in seven games and has lost six of those but has the rare opportunity to complete a home-and-away double over the current pace-setters.

It was back in November that the Canary Islanders snatched a 2-1 win away to Barca, becoming the first team to beat Flick’s side on their own soil this term.

Diego Martinez’s men enjoyed a brief spurt in results after that and went five unbeaten, but it feels as though that momentum is now spent after equalling that tally in reverse.

Robert Lewandowski’s goal was all that stood between Barca and Rayo Vallecano when Hansi Flick’s men extended their unbeaten run last time out.

Las Palmas’ recent nosedive in results has seen them fall level with 18th-place Valencia in points taken to date, meaning a loss here could be enough to plunge the club into the icy depths.

For Barca, meanwhile, three points would mean shoring up its status as the current pace-setter in the title hunt.
