La Liga underdog Leganes has taken the ‘new year, new me’ mantra to very literal extremes after going unbeaten thus far in 2025, a streak it will hope to extend at home to Rayo Vallecano on Friday. Borja Jimenez has weathered the storm from earlier this season and has led his side on a five-game undefeated streak to start the calendar year, most notably beating title contender Atletico Madrid 1-0 just over one week ago. Rayo is by no means in poor form itself and has upset the odds to record just one loss in its last 10 games across all competitions.

The Angola international has hardly featured for Rayo this season but was on hand when the team needed him most to lift Los Franjirrojos up to seventh in the standings.

Leganes is considerably worse off and is floating at 16th in the table, just three points off the relegation zone, although recent form would suggest otherwise.

Still, that sense of desperation may help the team get the result they’re looking for in Week 22, especially after back-to-back clean sheets against very capable opponents in Atletico and Athletic Club.
