Real Madrid is yet again looking to bounce back from defeat at home to Athletic Bilbao. Watch the game live and for free on Fubo today.

Almost six years have passed since Real Madrid last recorded three straight home defeats, but Carlo Ancelotti’s men are on the verge of matching that drought as Athletic Bilbao visits on Sunday. Los Blancos were knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals in midweek after Arsenal backed up its 3-0 opening-leg win in London with a 2-1 defeat at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to triumph 5-1 on aggregate. Prior to that, Real suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Valencia and face a much more difficult opponent now as fourth-place Athletic looks to complete a league double over Ancelotti & Co.

Former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has already got the better of his old rivals once this season and earned a 2-1 win at home to Real when these teams last met in December.

Alex Berenguer and Gorka Guruzeta were the heroes on that occasion, while Kylian Mbappe also missed a penalty that proved to be all too crucial.

Real’s concerns were compounded in Madrid after Bukayo Saka managed to score first and seemingly put the tie all but beyond the hosts.

Vinicius Junior breathed some life into the fixture with an almost instant response for Real, but Los Blancos struggled to break the Gunners down further before Gabriel Martinelli truly put the clash to bed:

While Los Leones may have beaten Real once already this term, it’s worth remembering that result came while Ancelotti was missing Vinicius, Eduardo Camavinga, David Alaba, Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal.

The latter duo are still missing in action, but the return of players like Vini Jr, Militao and Camavinga – who was suspended for Wednesday’s second leg against Arsenal – will be a major boon.
