Valencia has no choice but to record a big response at home to Celta Vigo on Sunday following a dismal decimation vs. Barcelona.

Things can’t get a whole lot worse for Valencia when it plays host to Celta Vigo on Sunday, where any kind of win will do after the club’s 7-1 mauling at the hands of Barcelona one week ago. The Blaugrana boomed to their biggest win in six months to keep Los Che locked in La Liga’s relegation zone, and not even a home win over Celta in Week 22 will be enough to take them out of the bottom three. It also doesn’t bode well for manager Carlos Corberan that his side haven’t managed to beat Los Celestes in any of their last four fixtures, though he at least wasn’t present for any of those.

There did appear to be an immediate response to Corberan’s appointment just prior to Christmas as he recorded an improved singular defeat in his first five matches in charge of Valencia.

Corberan even came close to masterminding an upset over European powerhouse Real Madrid before two goals in the dying minutes pulled a 2-1 win back for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

That being said, the squad was urged back to the drawing board following a one-sided result at the hands of Barca, leaving Los Che in 19th and five points adrift of safety.

Valencia needs a major response after suffering a 7-1 humiliation at Barcelona last time out, with Hugo Duro bagging the sole consolation for Corberan’s side:

Celta started 2025 in positive fashion after advancing past Racing Santander in the Copa del Rey, and they too took Real close before losing 5-2 in extra time.

However, Claudio Giraldez’s men are now without a win in four and sit just five points off the relegation places themselves, hoping a win this weekend will distance them from the dogfight.
