Juarez shutout Santos 2-0 in its Torneo Apertura fixture back in early October behind second half goals by forward Óscar Estupiñán and captain Carlos Salcedo for its third win in four matches against The Guerreros. In his second season with Los Bravos, Estupiñán has seven goals for Juarez and 92 career goals across all competitions, having played in Portugal, England, France and Italy.

Santos Laguna is winless in Liga MX since a mid-September home victory over Toluca, collecting just two points in its last 10 matches.

Over the last five Clausura fixtures, the series is split 2-2-1, with Juarez being unbeaten in the last three meetings. Santos has picked up red cards in two of the five spring meetings with both occurrences coming in the 90^th minute or later.
