For the second time in four days Monterrey (9-4-4) and San Luis (9-3-5) take the pitch. They face off in the Liga MX Apertura semifinals. In the first match between the clubs San Luis came away with a 2-1 on Wednesday to take the lead in this head-to-head series. That match came down to the wire with the match tied 1-1 with less than 25 minutes left in regulation. Leo Bonatini got the scoring started in the first half with a goal at the 30’ mark that carried the teams into half time. German Berterame tied things up at the 66’ mark giving Monterrey the momentum with just 24 minutes left in the match.

The match was decided at the 80’ minute mark by a goal from Ricardo Chavez that held up for the San Luis win. With that loss Monterrey saw its four match winning streak come to an end and puts the club on the brink of elimination in the second leg of the semifinals.

Before that loss Monterrey won four straight matches including a high scoring quarterfinal (5-3) win over Pumas UNAM. Before that Monterrey won the final two matches of the regular season outscoring opponents 6-1 and then two quarterfinal matches outscoring opponents 6-3. 

For San Luis the club has locked in on defense over the last eight matches. They have allowed a total of five goals winning five matches and ending in a draw in the three others. San Luis is playing some of the best overall team soccer of the final four teams remaining in the Liga MX Apurtura semifinals.
