West midlands collide when Premier League relegation contender Nottingham Forest hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Both Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the comeback trail ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at the City Ground in a war between west midlands powers. After such an encouraging first half of the season, Wolves are all of a sudden teetering after four games without a win in all competitions, while Forest remains on the brink of the bottom three and desperately needs three points to put some distance between it and the base of the standings. The last three straight meetings between these teams have each finished 1-1, and Wolves boasts the only victory as Premier League opposition.

Nuno Espirito Santo has Forest sat on the precipice of the Premier League’s bottom three as things stand, level on points with 18th-place Luton Town with only six games remaining.

And the City Ground side were on a fine run of three games without a loss prior to Sunday’s 3-1 toppling at Tottenham, where Forest briefly looked capable of taking maximum spoils.

The same was true for Wolves at home to West Ham on Saturday, except Gary O’Neil’s men led for almost an entire half before the Hammers hooked themselves back into the fixture.

James Ward-Prowse completed Saturday’s comeback for West Ham in particularly special fashion, arcing his corner directly into the goal in a moment Jose Sa would sooner forget:

That made it four in a row without a win for Wolves in all competitions, having gone almost two months since their last clean sheet and dropping into the table’s bottom half as a result.

The return of Matheus Cunha couldn’t have been timed any better for the end-of-season run-in as Wolves’ star center-forward looks to give the team a focal point up front that’s been sorely missing of late.

Chris Wood provides that presence for Forest and is chasing a fifth consecutive game getting on the score sheet, having been unlucky not to have at least two against Spurs last time out.
