Saturday’s league-opener should be an exciting one with high-level matchups all over the field. Most notably, Portland’s co-captain Mackenzie Arnold will anchor the defense while trying to put a stop to Kansas City’s Temwa Chawinga. Last season, Chawinga was a force to be reckoned with, scoring against every NWSL team to earn the Golden Boot and MVP at the end of the season. Portland will have a much stronger squad after doing a bit of rebuilding during the offseason, adding the likes of Sam Hiatt from Gotham FC and Deyna Castellanos from Bay FC to deepen the team’s talent pool.

While the season is long, both teams will look to get off to a strong start, winning the season-opener in the CPKC, a designated NWSL stadium where fans are expected to flood in to support the women’s game.
