The Seattle Reign RC will welcome the Kansas City Current to Lumen Field on Friday night as the teams square off in an NWSL matchup. Seattle comes into Friday’s home match with a record of 2-2-2 so far this season which has the team sitting in seventh place in the standings with eight points. The team’s most recent game was played against Bay FC last weekend and resulted in a 1-1 draw. Bay FC struck first with a goal in the 32nd minute of play, forcing Seattle to play catch up as the team went into the locker room trailing 1-0. In the 50th minute, Jordyn Huitema put the Reign on the board with an assist from Samantha Meza. While Seattle dominated play and possessed the ball for the majority of the match, the team gave up 12 shots in comparison to the nine that it was able to produce. Claudia Dickey made two saves to help her team earn one point in the draw.

Kansas City is holding the top spot in the NWSL standings with a record of 5-0-1 so far for a total of 15 points. The club’s only loss came in its last time on the pitch, dropping a 3-2 result to the North Carolina Courage last weekend. While Kansas City narrowly outshot North Carolina 15-14, the Courage was able to secure the win in stoppage time. Haley Hopkins opened the scoring in the 39th minute with an assist from Temwa Chawinga and the team took a 1-0 lead into the break. Shortly after halftime, the Courage tied things up, but five minutes later, Bia Zaneratto gave the Current a 2-1 lead. In the 90th minute of play, North Carolina put in the equalizer and the game-winning goal snuck past Lorena just two minutes later.

The last match between Kansas City and Seattle was played last June and the Current won handily in a 5-2 victory. Chawinga and Huitema each finished that game with a brace.
