The Portland Thorns FC will welcome the Orlando Pride to Providence Park on Saturday evening for NWSL matchup. The Thorns are currently in eighth place in the NWSL standings with a record of 2-3-2 for a total of nine points. A win on Saturday has the potential to move the club up several spots depending on the results of other teams around the league. The team’s most recent game was played against Racing Louisville and resulted in a 3-3 draw. Racing jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal in the ninth minute of play, but Reilyn Turner scored the equalizer eight minutes later. Louisville scored twice more before the end of the first half and Portland was awarded a penalty just before the break which was converted by Jessie Fleming. With Racing in the lead and the final minutes winding down, Portland was awarded another penalty kick which Jayden Lee Perry buried to tie the game before the game concluded.

The Pride is still atop the league table with a record of 5-0-1 this season. The team’s only loss came against the Washington Spirit two weeks ago, the team bounced back to beat Angel City 3-2 last weekend. Angel City took a 2-0 lead into halftime, but the Pride battled back to score three unanswered goals (Marta 71′, Barbra Banda 76′, M.A. Vignola 90+3′). Virgnola’s goal was credited as an own goal, but it was enough for the Pride to add another three points to its tally. Orlando outshot Angel City 13-10 and possessed the ball for the majority of the game to pull out the win and hold onto the top spot in the NWSL.

Orlando and Portland last met in October and Portland earned a 2-0 victory over the eventual NWSL champs.
