Newcastle United makes the trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday morning having won its last five games in a row across all competitions and looking to move up to fourth in the Premier League. The Magpies sit fifth in the table for the time being but can temporarily climb into the Champions League spots with three points in north London, while Spurs are languishing in 11th. Ange Postecoglou has found himself under mounting pressure at the Tottenham helm and will hope to turn a new leaf at the start of a New Year, while Newcastle counterpart Eddie Howe is targeting more of the same after ending 2024 on a high.

Newcastle travels to England’s capital with a smile on its face after booking back-to-back away wins and keeping clean sheets in each of its last three games.

Howe & Co secured a fourth straight league win in the most satisfying fashion imaginable, beating Manchester United 2-0 in their last game of 2024 to move up to fifth in the table.

And there was a distinct aerial bombardment on display as headers from Alexander Isak and Joelinton sent the Magpies back to the northeast with one of their best wins so far this season:

Postecoglou would have been wise to heed the events that unfolded at Old Trafford, particularly with a raft of key stars set to miss out in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario continues his stint on the sidelines, while starting central defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are also out of contention.

Postecoglou will have also been enraged by Rodrigo Bentancur’s 97th-minute booking in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at home to Wolves, earning him his fifth caution of the season and a suspension as a result.

Newcastle will be missing a key man in defense itself after Fabian Schar’s booking at Old Trafford earned him a suspension, while Kieran Trippier is in a race to be fit for Saturday.

Regional restrictions may apply.
