Al-Raed is hoping to disappoint Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr on Thursday in a bid to move away from the Saudi Pro League relegation race.

After six straight losses in the Saudi Pro League, Al-Raed will host Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr side on Thursday hoping to take a pivotal step away from the relegation zone. Raed Al Tahadi is currently level on points with 16th-place Al-Orobah and could slip into the bottom three if it fails to get an upset win over fourth place Al-Nassr, who is fighting to qualify for next season’s AFC Champions League. Al-Raed managed to hold out for a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture when it travelled to Riyadh on the opening day of the Saudi season but ideally needs to improve upon that result this time around.

Odair Hellmann’s men managed to share the spoils with Al-Nassr in August, a time when the Knight of Najd clearly wasn’t on its A-game, having drawn three of its first four games this season.

The Saudi superpower is now in a different vein of form under Stefano Pioli and has won four of its last four games, just two points off the AFC Champions League qualifying places.

Al-Nassr has now gone six games without a clean sheet, though the team is now on the verge of sealing three successive wins for the first time since October.

Ronaldo made it three goals in two games after bagging in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Al-Fateh, though a gap of eight points still separates the club from the table summit.

While joint-leaders Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad may be significantly better off in the table, the five-time Ballon d’Or-winner leads the Saudi Pro League scoring charts with 14 goals to date this term.

By comparison, Al-Raed’s current top league scorer and captain, Karim El Berkaoui, has just five goals to his name, and injury has thrown his involvement into doubt.
