Latvia takes on the Faroe Islands on Tuesday in UEFA Nations League group play.

The UEFA Nations League isn’t off to a bright start for neither Latvia nor the Faroe Islands, who face off on Tuesday as the bottom pairing currently in Group C4. Latvia suffered a 4-1 devastation at the hands of Armenia in its first outing of the competition, while the Faroe Islands will have been much more content with a 1-1 draw at home to North Macedonia. That being said, each nations will be desperate to make a step up in quality in the hopes of bagging three points at Skonto Stadium in Riga this week as the international window prepares to draw to a close.

Luckily for Latvia, it’s been only a matter of weeks since the country collected victory over the Faroe Islands when these teams met in this summer’s Baltic Cup.

Andrej Ciganiks supplied the only goal of the game on that occasion to end a run of four straight draws in this fixture, not to mention sealing Latvia’s first-ever win over the Faroe Islands.

However, morale has since taken a considerable turn for the worse following a one-sided defeat to Armenia on Saturday, Latvia’s heaviest defeat in almost a year.

The 11 Wolves briefly equalized before a Kaspars Dubra own goal helped put them on a path to misery, with Armenia managing to score two either side of half-time:

The Faroe Islands won’t be expecting a win so sizeable, but any victory at all would do for a nation whose last competitive win came all the way back in September 2022.

Since that unexpected triumph over Turkey in the last Nations League, the Scandinavians have endured a run of one win (a friendly), 12 losses and four draws.

Latvia will view this as its easiest opportunity of the Nations League to get points on the board, but the same can almost be said for Tuesday’s visitors.
