Quarterfinals continue on Thursday as the Netherlands and Spain go head-to-head in UEFA Nations League play.

The quest to become Europe’s elite soccer team continues on Thursday with a match between the Netherlands and Spain at Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdamn, Netherlands. The Netherlands finished in second place in League A Group 3 with nine points collected from two wins, three draws and one loss. The squad finished group play with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia & Herzegovina back in November. Brian Brobbey opened the scoring with a goal in the 24th minute after finishing a pass from Noa Lang. Bosnia & Herzegovina were able to tie things up in the 67th minute and despite multiple opportunities, neither team was able to score the game winnings goal, forcing them to settle for one point instead of three.

Spain finished atop the League A Group 4 standings, beating out Denmark, Serbia and Switzerland with a total of 16 points. The squad went undefeated in group play, winning five matches and playing one to a draw. The final game was played against Switzerland and resulted in a narrow 3-2 victory. Yéremy Pino opened the scoring in the 32nd minute for the Spaniards to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room. The Swiss tied the game up in the 63rd minute, but just five minutes later, Bryan Gil found the back of the net to put Spain back on top. With five minutes remaining, Switzerland tied it up again. In stoppage time, Bryan Zaragoza was able to put in the game-winner to add another three points to Spain’s tally.

Spain and The Netherlands last met in 2020 in an international friendly and the game resulted in a 1-1 draw. Tune in for the first leg of play on Thursday before the teams meet again on Sunday for the second leg.
