Oakland will host Western Conference Leader New Mexico United in the USL Championship on Saturday.
New Mexico United travels to California on Saturday to face the Oakland Roots with a vision of keeping its place atop the USL Championship’s Western Conference for at least one more week. The Black and Yellow lost 1-0 in its most recent trip to Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum almost one year ago, but current form suggests New Mexico is on a course to clinch its redemption this weekend. Dennis Sanchez’s men appear to be well-placed to top their half of the league once more this year, while the Roots sit 10th in the table and could be happy just to make a leap into the play-off places.

Former LA Galaxy forward Gavin Glinton has inspired his side to victory in their of their last six USL outings, including a first home win of the campaign against local rival Orange County.
New Mexico’s most recent trip up the west coast just last weekend ended with a 3-0 win over Orange County thanks in large part to two penalties courtesy of defender Jon-Talen Maples:
That win was enough to keep Sanchez’s men atop the Western Conference following back-to-back defeats against El Paso Locomotive and Phoenix Rising.
The pace-setter will hope a first win at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum since June 2022 can mark the beginning of a fresh streak, having pieced together a stretch of four straight wins at the start of the season.
