This year marks the 150th edition of the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown in horse racing.

The 150th Preakness Stakes lost a little bit of its stakes when Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty withdrew from competition. That means there will not be a Triple Crown winner this year. With Sovereignty out of the runningm that opens up the 150th Preakness Stakes for the rest of the field, led by favorite Journalism and jockey Umberto Rispoli. Journalism is an 8-5 favorite to win the second leg of the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing. Over the last five races Journalism participated he is 4-1, only losing the Kentucky Derby. In that race, he finished second and was neck-and-neck with Sovereignty down the stretch. Now he has the opportunity to break out in the 150th Preakness Stakes.

Journalism is the favorite in the race and will be in the second position next to Goal Oriented, who is another betting favorite to win this race. Goal Oriented has 6-1 odds to win the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Just ahead of Goal Oriented with slightly better betting odds are Sandman (4-1) and Clever Again (5-1), who are in the seventh and eighth positions, respectively. The other five horses in the field are American Promise (15-1) in third position, Heart of Honor (12-1) in fourth position, Pat Billy (20-1) in fifth position, River Thames (9-2) in sixth position and Gosger (20-1) in ninth position.

If there is home horse advantage for this race it would go to Pat Billy who is was trained just 30 miles from this track.
