The United States faces the host country Finland in the 2022 IIHF World Championship semifinals on Saturday at Tampere Deck Arena.

United States advanced to the playoff round following a top-five finish in Group B where the team won five matches, three in regular time and three in overtime, to go along with 13 points. Finland was also in Group B, finishing at the top of the group after seven matches, winning six and losing just once in overtime.

Being the last to qualify in Group B meant that the U.S. team faced Group A-winner Switzerland in the quarterfinals. The tall task was met head-on with the American team winning 3-0 against a Swiss team that hadn’t been shut out in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Finland faced the No. 4 ranked team from Group A, Slovakia, where the Finnish squad came away with a 4-2 victory at Tampere Deck Arena on Thursday. Marko Anttila scored two goals in the victory for Finland.
