For the first time in the US Open and the third time this year Jannik Sinner is in the semifinals. He has the opportunity to advance to his second Grand Slam final against 25th-seeded Jack Draper, who has quietly played the best tennis of anyone in the tournament. Draper has won all five of his matches in straight sets to advance to his first-ever Grand Slam semifinal. The winner of this first semifinal will advance to face off with the winner of the All-American semifinal between 12th-seeded Taylor Fritz and 20th-seeded Frances Tiafoe who are playing in their first and second respective Grand Slam semifinal.

This is only the second time Sinner and Draper have faced off in an ATP Tour match and the first time in a Grand Slam event. Draper won that match in 2021 in straight sets but required two tie-breakers to earn a very hard-fought, entertaining match.

The path to the semifinals for Draper has seen the 22-year-old budding star win every match in straight sets and go 89-36 in games. This will be his biggest test against the top-ranked player in the world, who is playing the best tennis of his career this year.

For Sinner, he has gone 15-2 in sets and 95-50 in games to get to his third semifinal of the year in Grand Slams. He is the only player to play in at least three Grand Slam semifinals this year and can tie Carlos Alcaraz with two majors this year with two more wins in the US Open.

The other semifinal will feature two Americans. The US Open has not seen a men’s singles champion or runner-up born in the United States since Andy Roddick lost to Roger Federer in 2006. That 17-year drought of an American player playing in front of a home crowd in a Grand Slam tournament comes to an end today when either 12th-seeded Taylor Fritz or 20th-seeded Frances Tiafoe advances to the finals.
