Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka kick-off the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open on Tuesday.

The quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open feature matches that any other year could be the finals in both the men’s and women’s singles draws. Tuesday starts with defending champion, top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka challenged by 27th seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Rod Laver Arena. Sabalenka has been a force this year, winning all four of her matches in straight sets, cruising her way to the quarterfinals again. Over in the men’s draw the most anticipated match of the tournament comes in the quarterfinals. Third-seeded Carlos Alcaraz faces off once again with seventh-seeded Novak Djokovic in a Grand Slam with history on the line. Djokovic is chasing history while Alcaraz is looking to make his own.

Since Alcaraz burst onto the scene in 2021 he has made 10 quarterfinals in the last 14 Grand Slam events. He has four titles, with only the Australian Open evading him to have trophies in all four major tournaments.

These two have met in the quarterfinals or later three times in a Grand Slam and once more in the Olympics. In those high leverage matches they are even, with two wins a piece. Most recently Alcaraz won in straight sets at Wimbledon in 2024 followed by Djokovic winning in straight sets at the Olympics, both in the finals.

Also on the schedule in the men’s draw in the quarterfinals is top-seeded and defending champion Jannik Sinner vs. eighth-seeded Alex de Minaur and Lorenzo Sonega vs. 21st seeded Ben Shelton. In the women’s draw second-seeded Iga Swiatek is challenges by eighth-seeded Emma Navarro and 19th seeded Madison Keys takes on 28th seeded Elina Svitolina.
