It’s opening night for the NBA G League with the reigning league MVP looking to get started with a win. Mac McClung leads the Osceola Magic to kick off the season against the Austin Spurs at home. Last season Osceola finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference and second-best overall record. They entered the playoffs as the number one seed, but Osceola was upset in the Conference Semifinals. This season McClung and Osceola look to build on that success and win the franchise’s second championship in five seasons. Austin finished on the outside looking into the playoffs despite finishing with the fourth-best record in the Western Conference, losing a tiebreaker to all three teams.

McClung led the NBA G League with 25.7 points per game on 51-39-84 shooting splits. He stuffed the statsheet with 6.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game earning his first NBA G League MVP. In recent years Chris Boucher, Paul Reed and Carlik Jones have all won the NBA G League MVP.

On the other side for Austin the team is led once again this season by David Duke Jr. and the development of young talent to feed up to play with Victor Wembanyama on the NBA team. Duke is coming off a season where he averaged 19.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

2023 second-round pick Sidy Cissoko played well in his rookie season in the NBA G League. Last season he averaged 15.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game in 23 games in the NBA G League while also appearing in 12 games for the San Antonio Spurs.
