Players from different nations bring their A-game on Wednesday, showcasing exceptional skills, agility, and strategic prowess on the court, including powerhouses such as China, Indonesia, Japan, and Malaysia.

All six seeded players in the BWF Australian Open 2024 men’s singles badminton draw, including Malaysian Lee Zii Jia and Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew, made it past their opening tests.

Lee was made to work the hardest out of all six, with the third seed being taken to a three-game thriller by Indian opponent S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian, with the eighth seed eventually winning 21-16, 18-21, 21-10.

In the women’s singles, eighth-seeded Aakarshi Kashyap beat Polina Buhrova of Ukraine 21-14, 21-11 in the first round. Aakarshi will take on Kai Qi Teoh of Australia in the second round, while Malvika Bansod, who beat compatriot Keyura Mopati 21-10, 21-8, will face seventh-seeded Ester Tri Wardoyo of Indonesia.

In the mixed doubles category, B Sumeeth Reddy and N Sikki Reddy also advanced to the second round after beating the Malaysian pair of Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien 21-17, 21-19 in 39 minutes.
