The A’s are coming off a series win against the stout Tampa Bay Rays. Even though the Giants have 11 more wins than the Athletics, this game is essentially a toss up with both clubs having -110 odds to win this opener.

The Giants are coming off a 7-2 win on Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday that tied the four-game series. San Francisco lost the first two games of the series, but then bounced back to win the final two games. Starter Robbie Ray contines is brilliance this season pitching his first complete game since 2017. He scattered a couple of solo shots throughout the game, only giving up three hits and striking out seven to improve to 9-3. Rafael Devers had one of his best games since joining the Giants driving in three runs. Justin Verlander will get the start against the A’s tonight. The future Hall of Famer is still looking for his first win with his new club, with a 0-5 record and a 4.26 ERA.

The A’s missed out on an opportunity to sweep the Rays, losing in a close 6-5 contest on Wednesday in the series finale. Josh Lowe, Yandy Diaz, and Mangum all had homers for the Rays, which was just too much to overcome. The A’s got off to a hot start scoring two runs in the first, but they couldn’t score again until a three-run ninth inning where the comeback fell just short. The Athletics will start JP Spears for the opener as the Athletics come back home tonight. The lefty is 6-7 with a 5.09 ERA.
