Grambling State lost four of its last five games after that win against Jackson State, as the Tigers look to improve on a 5-7 2024 campaign. Grambling State is off to a good start this season with a 4-3 record so far. The Tigers avoided losing three conference games in a row, with its first SWAC win of the season in a 20-16 victory over Arkansas Pine-Bluff last week. Jackson State is going for its fifth win in a row, and the Tigers are 3-0 in SWAC play and in home games. The Tigers haven’t lost since Week 2 against Southern Mississippi, and are coming off a close 38-34 win against Alabama State. Jackson State should be the favorites in this neutral site game in a battle of these bitter rivals.

Jackson State’s offense showed out against Alabama State in its homecoming game, but it was the defense that came up with the biggest play of the day. It looked like time had expired in the game, but one second was put back on the clock for Alabama State. The Hornets had the ball at the two-yard line but lineback Ashton Taylor stuffed Alabama State only allowing one yard sealing the win. The Tigers took the lead with just 50 seconds left in the game, with an 18-yard pass from QB JaCobian Morgan to receiver Nate Rembert. While the defense came up huge at the end, it will need to show up more consistently against Grambling State, as Jackson State gave up more than 500 yards against Alabama State.

Grambling State’s defense did just that against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, forcing three turnovers against the Golden Lions. Defensive Back Markel Linzer picked off two passes while Blake Davis added another to lead this defense. Linzer also led the team with six tackles. QB C’zavian Teasett threw for 148 yards and one interception. Tre Bradford was the biggest factor on offense by a mile, rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. It was the second week in a row where Bradford surpassed the century mark. He will be absolutely essential for the Tigers against Jackson State. Grambling State has the opposite problem of Jackson State, where the Tigers will likely need to be more prolific on offense tonight to keep up.
