Local favorite La Lumiere School tips off the La Porte Invititational against Sunrise Christian Academy on Thursday.

Eleven of the top high school programs in the nation will be on display at the La Porte Invitational at the La Porte Civic Auditorium in La Porte, Indiana. On Thursday, the event tips off with the local squad, La Lumiere (11-5) taking on Sunrise Christian Academy (9-2) out of Bel Aire, Kansas. Both schools play national schedules, with the Lakers from La Lumiere most recently playing in the Les Schwab Invitational at Hillsboro, Oregon, and the Buffaloes playing at a tournament in Wichita, Kansas.

Sunrise Christian won both of its games in Wichita on Friday and Saturday, beating Lincoln (Nebraska) HomeSchool and Oklahoma Flame from Bixby, Oklahoma. Canaan McElroy tossed in 21 points in the Buffaloes’ 71-64 victory over Lincoln HomeSchool before dropping 22 points while David Ganza finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 63-42 win on Saturday over Oklahoma Flame.

La Lumiere reached the championship game of the Les Schwab Invitational winning three games before falling to Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) 64-44 in the final on Dec. 30. The Lakers opened with a 57-35 win over Baker (Baker City, Oregon) on Dec. 27, beat Southridge (Beaverton, Oregon) on Dec. 28 by a 70-48 count and topped Annie Wright (Tacoma, Washington) 52-46 in the Dec. 29 semifinal.

La Lumiere features three senior standouts, guard Darius Adams (committed to UConn), forward Jalen Haralson (Notre Dame) and forward Chuck Love (Loyola Chicago). A pair of juniors from Sunrise Christian are on the ESPN 60 for the Class of 2026 in forward Chidi Nwigwe and center Gavin Placide.
