On Friday night, No. 12 Colorado College begins its 2024-2025 season. The Tigers will be at home, hosting Northern Michigan for a pair of games at Ed Robson Arena. This will be the fourth year for the Tigers under head coach Kris Mayotte, and the program is really starting to build some momentum. The Tigers finished last season ranked after going 21-13-3 – winning their most games in a season since 2012. The Tigers are ranked coming into this season – the first time that’s been the case since the 2011-2012 campaign.

The Tigers were picked to finish in third place in the preseason NHCH media poll, behind just No. 1 Denver and No. 6 North Dakota. Two Tigers represent the team on the NCHC Preseason All-Conference team, in junior forward Noah Laba Jr. and junior goalie Kaidan Mbereko.

This is also the first game of the year for Northern Michigan – and the first with a new head coach. After finishing last year 12-16-6, former head coach Grant Potulny resigned to take over as the head coach of the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack.

In his place, Norther Michigan hired Dave Shyiak, who played at Northern Michigan in the late 80s and early 90s and was a team captain for the National Championship-winning team in 1991. Shyiak was also an assistant on the Northern Michigan Staff from 1992-1993 and then again from 1995-2005. He has previous head coaching experience at Alaska Anchorage and spent the last four years as an assistant at St. Cloud State.
