No. 5 Ohio State looks to get back to .500 by finishing a weekend sweep at Bemidji State
Defending national champion Ohio State (1-2-0) picked up its first victory of the season on Friday night and looks to complete a Western Collegiate Hockey Association sweep on Saturday afternoon when it takes on Bemidji State (0-1-0) at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minnesota. The Buckeyes, ranked No. 5 in the USA Hockey/USA Today poll won their second national title in three years last season but opened the this season with two straight losses for the first time since 1999-2000. The Beavers, meanwhile, come off a 4-30-2 campaign and have lost 11 straight games dating back to last season.

Ohio State potted five first-period goals en route to an 8-2 romp on Friday night, with Makenna Webster and Jordyn Petrie each scoring twice in the victory. The Buckeyes outshot Bemidji State 34-10 and won 31 of 43 faceoffs in the game. Emma Peschel picked up four assists.
Hailey Armstrong got the Beavers on the board with a shorthanded goal in the second period and Isa Goetll lit the lamp early in the third period.
The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 63-29-13 and have won the last 14 meetings, with Bemidji State’s last win coming on Feb. 11, 2022. Ohio State has played in four straight Frozen Fours and three consecutive national championship games. The Beavers have never qualified for the NCAA tournament and their last winning season came in 2015-16.
Nadine Muzerall is 196-75-19 in her ninth season at OSU while Amber Fryklund was named Bemidji State’s head coach in April after five seasons as associate head coach and 10 years on the coaching staff. Her 59 goals from 2000-03 are the most in program history.
