After snapping losing skid, the Orioles open a four-game weekend series against the Red Sox in a matchup of AL East foes.

Winners of three of their last five games, the Boston Red Sox continue on their 10-game homestand on Friday night as they welcome the slumping Baltimore Orioles into Fenway Park for the first game of a four-game weekend series. After missing the first month of the season with a hamstring injury, Boston will start veteran right-hander Lucas Giolito (1-1, 7.08 ERA) in his fifth outing of the year hoping to regain the form that made him an All-Star in 2019 with the White Sox. The Orioles will counter with second-year southpaw Cade Povich (1-3, 5.23 ERA) who is winless in his last three starts having allowed at least one home run in five of his last six outings.

In his first year in Boston, Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman leads the team in batting average, hits and home runs after signing a three-year $120 million free agent deal in the offseason. Bregman, a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion with Houston, won a Gold Glove for his defensive prowess at the hot corner in 2024 and has posted double-digit home run totals in eight of his last nine seasons. The 31-year-old Albuquerque, New Mexico native comes into the weekend just two RBIs away from 700 for his career.

Orioles right fielder Ryan O’Hearn has been a bright spot for a lackluster Baltimore offense hitting .306, 13th best in MLB, having posted four multi-hit efforts in the last seven games including a dazzling 4-for-6 night at the plate in Wednesday night’s 8-4 extra innings win at Milwaukee.

Boston has won six of the last nine games in this series but Baltimore has won four of the last six games played at Fenway Park.
