Group B of the Women’s Concacaf Champions Cup continues on Wednesday night when the San Diego Wave FC battles the Portland Thorns FC. The Wave come into the match fresh off a shutout win over Santa Fe on Aug. 20. The Wave struck quick as Maria Sanchez scored just two minutes into the game and then Kristen McNabb gave them some insurance with a goal in the 64th minute. The win has them in a tie for first place in Group B, but two of those teams, Club America and Vancouver, have already played two matches. They are also tied with the Thorns and the winner of the match on Wednesday night will take sole possession of first place.

The Thorns are hoping they can be the team to move to the top as they look to get their second straight win.

They opened up group play on Sept. 4 with a hard-fought 3-1 win over America. Christine Sinclair scored the first two goals of the match at the 13′ and 28′ mark and then Reilyn Turner added a third straight goal in the 52nd minute. They did give up a goal a minute later, but held off the rally to get the win.

Wednesday they will look to pick up a second straight win and jump to the top of the group standings. Both teams could definitely use this win.
