Syracuse travels to take on Pitt for Thursday night college football. These two teams have been a pleasant surprise in the ACC, proving themselves as two of the best teams in the conference. That’s particularly the case with Pitt, who is still undefeated on the season. The Panthers have not shot up the ACC standings though because they have only played two conference games so far and are fourth in the standings behind undefeated Clemson and Miami. Pitt got to No. 19 in the rankings after beating Cal 17-15 last Saturday. Pitt started off the game very well, leading at half 17-6 and was looking like it was going to cruise to another victory. But the Panthers didn’t score in the second half, but their defense really clamped down to only allow one score in the fourth quarter.

Pitt’s biggest leader on the day was Desmond Reid, who had 16 carries for 120 yards and two touchdowns. This should be the same formula again tonight, but the Panthers have to find different ways to score to keep up with Syracuse, who is only a game back in the conference standings.

Syracuse is also coming off a big conference win by beating NC State last week 24-17. Quarterback Kyle McCord stepped up in a huge way, throwing for 346 yards and two touchdowns. Similar to Pitt, Syracuse got up big early but kept letting its opponent climb back. The Orange were up 24-7 early in the fourth quarter. But then they let their foot off the gas with NC State scoring two unanswered touchdowns to get within one score. But it was too little, too late to pull off the comeback.
