Las Palmas aims for first win of the season versus streaking Villarreal

Fifty-one weeks since a win at Villarreal, winless Las Palmas hopes a return to Estadio de la Ceramica today provides its first victory of the 2024-25 La Liga season and pulls the Canary Island side out of the relegation zone. Villarreal rebounded from a 5-1 home thrashing at the hands of Barcelona eight days ago with a 2-1 away victory at Espanyol on Thursday keeping El Submarino Amarillo unbeaten on the road this season. Despite collecting points in six of its first seven matches this season, Villarreal has a net-zero goal differential, the only team in the top six to have surrendered double-digit goals.

Veteran forward Ayoze Pérez leads Villarreal with six goals on the campaign, the only player on the team with more than one goal. Pérez, in his first season with Villarreal, has scored five goals in his last four matches including both goals in Thursday’s win over Espanyol and is now three goals shy of equaling his highest goal scoring season since netting 12 for Newcastle United back in 2018-19.

Las Palmas is paced by midfielder Alberto Moleiro and forward Sandro who have each tallied three goals on the campaign. At just 21-years-old, Moleiro has helped Las Palmas earn promotion from Segunda Division and has already equaled his scoring output from his last season where he played 27 matches with the club.

Las Palmas has won three of the last five matches against Villarreal since 2017 including a sweep last season outscoring Villarreal 5-1.
