With another win Tuesday, St. Louis would win back-to-back games for just the third time this season. Early in this season St. Louis has not been able to build momentum, but has the opportunity in this Interleague series with Oakland. In the first game between the teams St. Louis won 3-1 in a competitive game where they were able to control the game from the opening pitch for nine straight innings. They look to build on that momentum in the second game of this series today.

St. Louis blanked Oakland for the first seven innings before allowing the only run of the game. That run came on the first run of the season from Esteury Ruiz, crushing the ball to left-center field to get Oakland on the board with its first and only run of the game.

For St. Louis, it was able to build its lead with a Nolan Arenado single in the first inning, a Wilson Contreras double and a Jordan Walker single to pepper in just enough offense to win the game.

On the mound today for St. Louis is veteran right-hander Lance Lynn (0-0) looking for his first win of the season. In his first three starts Lynn has pitched a total of 13.2 innings with 18 strikeouts and allowing just four total earned runs. Lynn held opponents scoreless in two of his three starts, but the offense was not able to score enough to allow the veteran to finish with a win.

Mayorkas, Garland, State Actions, Israel’s Response, and More – The Faulkner Focus on April 16th, 2024, 11am

Read how Fubo uses AI here.

The Faulkner Focus, aired on FOX News on April 16th, 2024, at 11 am, covered a range of pressing topics and developments. The program began by highlighting two significant stories involving Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas facing impeachment and Attorney General Merrick Garland testifying amid accusations of a weaponized Justice Department.

Border Crisis and Impeachment

Mayorkas faced stark criticisms for his handling of the escalating border crisis, with calls for his impeachment intensifying. House Republicans are set to deliver impeachment articles to the Senate, emphasizing the need to remove Mayorkas from office due to his alleged failures and breaches of public trust.

Anti-Israel Protests

The program also delved into anti-Israel protests across the United States, disrupting critical transportation hubs and spreading anti-American sentiments. The protests, organized by A15 Action and backed by liberal billionaire activist George Soros, have sparked controversy and calls for action to end such disruptions.

Response to Protests

In response to the protests, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida vowed to arrest and remove protestors blocking roads, highlighting the need to maintain public safety and order. California authorities have already arrested protestors for similar actions, signaling a crackdown on such disruptive activities.

Political Turmoil in Congress

Congressional correspondent Aishah Hosni reported on the growing turmoil in Congress, with U.S. Congressman Thomas Massey joining Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene in a bid to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson. The situation highlights internal conflicts within the House leadership and the challenges faced by Speaker Johnson.

International Relations and Media Controversies

The program also touched on Israel’s potential response to Iran’s attacks, NPR facing backlash over liberal bias revelations, and criticism of former President Trump’s hush money trial. The discussions shed light on complex international dynamics and media controversies shaping current events.

The Faulkner Focus provided a comprehensive overview of these critical issues, offering insights into political, social, and international developments. Catch more in-depth discussions on these topics by tuning in to The Faulkner Focus on FOX News. Watch for free with a trial to Fubo.

Europa League glory would set up Leverkusen for a Champions League run

Xabi Alonso caught many by surprise when he announced his decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen beyond the end of the season. The Spaniard had been strongly linked with Bayern Munich and Liverpool, both of whom will appoint new managers this summer, but he opted to stay put. There is, after all, much more for him to achieve at the BayArena.

Last weekend saw Leverkusen clinch the championship. It was the first Bundesliga title in the club’s 119-year history and erased the ‘Bayer Neverkusen’ tag that had become a defining element of the Black and Reds’ identity. Alonso and his players will forever be considered Leverkusen legends.

This season could get even better. Bayer Leverkusen are chasing an unbeaten season in the Bundesliga having gone 29 league matches without suffering a single defeat. On top of this, they are in the final of the DFB Pokal and have one foot in the semi-finals of the Europa League following a 2-0 first leg victory over West Ham.

Of all the things Bayer Leverkusen are still targeting this season, the latter could be most profound. The club lifted the UEFA Cup back in 1988 and reached the final of the Champions League in 2002, when they lost to a Zinedine Zidane-inspired Real Madrid at Hampden Park. A continental trophy in 2024 would rank among its greatest-ever achievements.

It could also lead to Leverkusen making a run in the Champions League next season. They have already secured their place in European soccer’s most prestigious club competition by winning the Bundesliga and there’s no reason to believe Alonso’s team can’t make their mark against the very best on the continent.

Bayer Leverkusen will face a fight to keep hold of their best players this summer. Florian Wirtz is a generational German talent who has earned a reputation as one of the best attacking midfielders in the sport. It wouldn’t be surprising if there was interest from a number of elite level clubs at the end of the season. Bayern Munich have been linked in the past, and usually come knocking when a talented German sprouts up at another Bundesliga club.

Jeremie Frimpong has enjoyed an exceptional season at right wing back for Leverkusen, contributing eight goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga. The Netherlands international is reportedly on the radar of several clubs around Europe with Manchester United and Real Madrid linked in the past.

Piero Hincapie is another played who could be the subject of interest this summer. Tottenham Hotspur have a long-standing interest in the Ecuadorian who at 22 years old still has time to improve further. At 28 years old, Jonathan Tah might feel now is the right time for him to seek a new challenge away from Leverkusen having spent his entire career in the Bundesliga.

Then there’s Victor Boniface, the Nigerian striker who has given Leverkusen physicality and cutting edge in front of goal since joining from Union Saint-Gilloise last summer. Top level number nines are difficult to find and it wouldn’t be surprising if Boniface is being monitored by the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, all of whom could use a frontman of his quality.

If Bayer Leverkusen can keep the bulk of their core group of players together, they stand a good chance of success in the Champions League next season. With an increased transfer budget, the opportunity will be there for the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions to strengthen their squad further.

This is perhaps what Alonso had in his mind when he made the call to reject Bayern Munich and Liverpool. Winning the Bundesliga title was the culmination of one thing, but it could mark the start of something else. Look at Jurgen Klopp’s time at Borussia Dortmund – Bundesliga glory ultimately led to an appearance in a Champions League final.

Alonso has a long career at the top of management to look forward to and so there’s no need for him to rush to a decision on his next move. There is much more for him to achieve at Bayer Leverkusen, a club the former midfielder has already moulded in his own image. There could be more scenes like the ones we saw at the BayArena on Sunday.

The Texas Rangers improved to 2-2 on their 10-game road trip on Monday, can secure a split with the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday afternoon

The Texas Rangers (9-8) got back over the .500 mark with a victory on Monday night at Comerica Park. On Tuesday, the Rangers continue their four-game series with the Detroit Tigers (9-7) with the first of three straight matinees. Detroit has lost three of its last four after they were shut out for the second time this season on Monday. Michael Lorenzen made his injury-delayed debut for Texas, working around five walks to combine with three relievers on a five-hit shutout. A neck strain delayed Lorenzen’s first start with his new club. He signed as a free agent in March after splitting last season between the Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies.
